Greyfriars Catholic School celebrates KS4 achievements

Greyfriars Catholic School is delighted to celebrate our KS4 students as they receive their GCSE results today. We are incredibly proud of them and of the determination and resilience represented in the results they receive.

Every grade has a story behind it, and one of the great privileges of being a school is that we know those stories. We know the hours of work, the moments when things clicked, the extra sessions at the end of the school day, the set-backs that had to be overcome and the people who kept going when it didn't seem to come easily. This year, we have students achieving an almost clean sweep of grade 9s; remarkable results which reflect enormous ability and commitment. But we also know that, for another young person, achieving a grade 1, 2 or 3 can represent just as much hard work and personal achievement. We are proud of all of these successes because we know what has gone into them.

For some students, including those who have continued working towards qualifications into Year 12, today marks the end of a longer journey. There will be results today that students have worked incredibly hard for and moments of real joy when someone has achieved something that, at times, may not have seemed possible.

Our students now move on to many different next steps; some will join our Sixth Form, others will continue their education at college or through training and apprenticeships. Each route is different, just as each set of results is different.

What matters to us is the young person behind the grades and their individual stories. These students have each played their part in our community and in living out the Greyfriars Way. We have watched them overcome challenges and achieve things they can be genuinely proud of. Today, we celebrate how far they have come and look forward to where they go next. Go Greyfriars!

Given the uneven impact of the pandemic on school and college performance data, the government has said you should not make direct comparisons between the performance data for one school or college and another, or to data from previous years.
